Dr. StrangeType: or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the AI

Quick! Read this, then meet me at the bottom half of the post –>

Introduction

As technology continues to advance, it is only natural for us to explore its potential in various fields. Writing, being a creative and expressive art, is no exception to this trend. In this blog post, we will delve into how this website aims to offer AI writing services that complement and enhance the writing process, without replacing writers themselves.

The Role of AI in Writing

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has already made its mark in various industries, and writing is gradually embracing its potential. However, it is important to understand that AI is not here to replace writers; instead, it is here to aid them in crafting better stories.

AI writing services can assist writers by providing valuable insights, generating ideas, and suggesting improvements. By analyzing vast amounts of data, AI algorithms can identify patterns, predict trends, and offer creative suggestions that writers may not have considered otherwise.

Complementing Creativity and Craftsmanship

One of the key advantages of using AI in writing is its ability to complement the creativity and craftsmanship of human writers. AI algorithms can quickly generate drafts, saving writers time and effort. These drafts can then be refined, adapted, and personalized by the writer, resulting in a more polished and unique piece of work.

Furthermore, AI can help writers overcome creative blocks and provide fresh perspectives. By exploring different writing styles, genres, and voices, AI can inspire writers to think outside the box and experiment with new ideas.

A Responsible Outlet for AI in Creative Writing

While AI offers immense potential, it is crucial to approach its use in creative writing responsibly. This website aims to be a responsible outlet for the practice of AI in creative writing. It will not only provide AI writing services but also serve as a platform for discussing AI’s influence on writing.

Through this blog, we will explore the ethical considerations, challenges, and opportunities that arise when AI and writing intersect. We will engage in meaningful discussions about the impact of AI on creativity, originality, and the future of storytelling.

Conclusion

Embracing AI in writing is not about replacing human writers, but about harnessing technology to enhance their creative potential. This website is committed to offering AI writing services that complement and empower writers, while also fostering responsible discussions about AI’s influence in writing.

all right, I’m back…

You still with me?

Yes, the above post was written by AI — actually by AI “built-in” to this very WordPress. It took me all of twenty seconds to generate everything above…

And it shows.

Okay. To be fair, it isn’t THAT bad, is it? I mean, the AI recognizes the key point of the post (the purpose of this website and personal philosophy that AI won’t replace people) and makes some pretty bland, generic statements about the topic, taken from my prompting. Maybe it’s not terrible…but it surely isn’t good.

You can hear the voice in human-generated writing. Hopefully, you can hear mine right now — a tad playful, a tad wry, smirking as I sip coffee and wonder what I’ve gotten myself into.

What have I gotten myself into, you ask? Well, this website, for one. What started as a blog has turned into a project — a personal crusade, perhaps — to build a blog about AI and writing, where writers can use AI to developing their writing.

Eventually.

You heard me correct, “Sunblock” (hey, everyone gets to name their AI something cute until it turns on them and takes over the world) will serve as a writing partner for myself and hopefully many others. I won’t bore you with the technical details yet, because that’s not what this post is about. To be honest, this post wasn’t supposed to be about any of this. I wanted to talk about George R.R. Martin and his novelist buddies teaming up to go after OpenAI for copyright infringement.

But I was short on time and needed a jumping off point. So the AI built into this blog site spit out the top part of the post and I filled in the bottom half. Sure, it’s not much of a post, but that’s the point — AI is NOT a replacement for writers, and it’s pretty obvious when it’s being used. If you’ve visited any blogs whose posts sound like the top half of this post, its’ almost certain you’re reading AI-generated content. It just doesn’t sound…organic, for lack of a better descriptor.

Regardless of whether you consider this human-generated portion of today’s post to be “good” or “bad,” at least you can tell it was written by a “someone” and not a “something.”

All this blathering may soon be moot. Who knows what capabilities AI will possess in a few short years or even months? Maybe it will become standard practice to co-author books with AI. Maybe its mimicry will advance to the point of replacing some human authors. Or maybe AI will exist within word processors and popular writing software, serving as a grammar guide and research assistant.

Some of these things are already underway.

That’s why it’s important writers start learning to work with AI instead of just fearing or ignoring it. And that’s also why I’m taking the time away from my own writing to develop a platform specifically for suited to that purpose. My goal is to design a simple but robust AI writing assistant. If I can do that, I’ll share it here.

As I explained in my first blog, I believe AI will be a good thing for writers and all artists in the long run. It’s going to take some work, some legislation, and a lot of adapting, but we will soon enter a world where imagination and originality are more valuable than ever. It may be a bit of a bumpy road getting there, but so long as we value human creation and keep in mind that generative AI is impossible without it, the role of writers and all creativity is not going away.

As the guy with the helmet would say, “This is the way.” And it’s the only way. The lid is off, my friends, and there ain’t no going back.

Or as AI puts it,
